Clifton Middle School Orientation and Meet the Teachers Night

All students in grades 6-8, along with their parents/guardians, are cordially invited to attend the 2016-17 Clifton Middle School Campus Orientation and Meet the Teachers Night on Tuesday, August 16th from 5:30-7:00 p.m.  Students will have access to classrooms and lockers, as well as the opportunity to meet with teachers and staff of Clifton Middle School. Come join us as we kick off another great school year.

Clifton Middle School will hold registration and academic advising for the 2016-17 school year as follows:

August 3rd 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

August 4th 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

August 5th 7:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

STAAR Scores

We have been notified by the Texas Education Agency that the scores for grades 3-8 Spring STAAR Tests will be released electronically to school districts on July 5, 2016, after business hours. Results should include Math, Reading, Science, Social Studies and Writing. When we receive the paper copies of the individual Confidential Student Reports (CSRs), we will mail them out. 2016 Middle School STEM Camp-Roller Coaster Physics

Clifton Middle School will host our 4th Annual STEM Camp on August 8-11, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon each day. This year's theme is Roller Coaster Physics. Here is the information:
  • Camp is open to all incoming 6th-8th grade students
  • Please submit enrollment form and payment to Andy Ball, CMS Principal by June 30, 2106.
  • Cost: $10 per camper (no refunds)
  • Enrollment limited to first 50 applicants
  • T-shirt and daily snacks included in the enrollment fee
  • Please complete the bottom of this announcement and mail to Andy Ball, 1102 Key Ave., Clifton, TX 76634. You may also email your information.

Clifton Middle School-Student Supply List 2016-17

Below is a basic school supply list for each Clifton Middle School student. Please remember other supplies may be needed throughout the school year. As a campus, we will be providing supplies not listed, such as highlighters and map pencils that will be needed in certain classes. Most students will be enrolled in 5 classes that will require the folders and composition notebooks listed below. If teachers need students to have any class-specific items, they will notify students when school starts and the students will have ample time to obtain those items.

• Plastic folder with pockets and brads for each class, except Band and Athletics 
• Composition notebook (9.75 inches X 7.5 inches) for each class, except Band and Athletics

REMINDER-Early Release/Last Day of School Tomorrow

Tomorrow, Thursday, May 26, 2016, is the last day of school. All students will be released at 1:00 p.m. Thank you to everyone for your support of our Clifton Middle School students and staff throughout the 2015-16 school year. Enjoy your summer break. AB

Student Council Dance-Saturday, May 14th

The Clifton Middle School Student Council will be hosting a dance on Saturday, May 14, 2016.
 
WHEN: May 14, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
 
WHERE: Middle School Gym
 
COST: $3 per student
 
SNACKS: 6th graders bring drinks, 7th graders bring sweet snacks, 8th graders bring salty snacks
 
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: Must be a Clifton Middle School student to attend the dance. Students must be in dress code. Students will not be allowed to loiter outside the building during the dance; all students must remain inside or go home.
 
**Parents are invited and encouraged to attend.

STAAR Test Information

The next round of state testing begins next week for Clifton Middle School students. Below you will find test dates and specific test information.
 
Test Dates
  • Monday, May 9-6th and 7th grade Math and 8th grade Math Retests
  • Tuesday, May 10-6th and 7th grade Reading and 8th grade Reading Retests
  • Wednesday, May 11-8th grade Science
  • Thursday, May 12-8th grade Social Studies
Specific Test Information
  • Students must report to testing rooms by 7:50 a.m. Each test will begin by 8:15 a.m. It is imperative students are not late to school. Students will have four hours to complete each test.
  • Each student will be provided bottled water and animal crackers before each test. Students may also bring snacks of their own choice. Please avoid bringing snacks that are sticky, greasy or loud when eaten, such as candy canes and/or potato chips.
  • Students are not allowed to possess cell phones, tablets or electronic devices during testing. If students bring cell phones in the testing room, they will be required to turn them in to the teacher before testing begins. If, during test administration, a student is in possession of a cell phone, tablet or any electronic device capable of communication or of capturing images or video of secure test materials, it must be taken up by the test administrator and the incident must be reported by the school district to the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The TEA will then notify the school district when the electronic device or cell phone may be returned to the student.
TEA Student Success Initiative (SSI)
 
The TEA SSI will be in effect for students taking the 2016 8th grade STAAR Math and STAAR Reading Tests. The SSI requires students to pass both the STAAR Math and STAAR Reading Test to be promoted to the 9th grade. 8th grade students will have three opportunities to pass each test-once in March, once in May and once in June. Results from May Retests are scheduled to be received by districts on May 31, 2016. Students that do not pass the second administration will be required to attend Summer School from June 1-22 and retest on June 21 (Math) and/or 22 (Reading). 5th Six Weeks AR Reading Rewards Drawings

Congratulations to today's winners in the 5th Six Weeks AR Reading Rewards Cash Drawings. All students that achieved 100% of their AR Goal for the 5th six weeks with a test average of 80% or higher were eligible for 20 cash drawings and a total of $100. All money given away is raised through concession sales. Algebra 1 EOC Tomorrow

8th grade students enrolled in Algebra 1 will take the End-of-Course Exam tomorrow, Wednesday, May 4, 2016.
